This Saints vs Eagles game will be a big stepping stone for the New Orleans Saints. Or for the Philadelphia Eagles if they win. The loser will have a big hurdle to overcome. Both teams are coming off NFC wins but both have problems based on the first week of NFL action.
The Saints took a 45-27 win over the Lions, a win in which the Saints showed some flaws. Three turnovers, all at opportune times, kept the Detroit Lions hanging around longer than they should have. As we saw last season, the Saints secondary may once again be prone to giving up the big play. For the Saints to overcome the Eagles in Philadelphia, things will have to be cleaned up considerably.
The Eagles had a field day with the Panthers. Once again, Jake Delhomme had an incredible five turnovers. What was bad for the Eagles was Donovan McNabb leaving the game with cracked ribs. That means Kevin Kolb may be suiting up next week.
So this Saints - Eagles game will be very important for a few reasons. The Saints need to clean up their act. The Eagles defense will be a lot tougher than Detroits, and you can’t bank on Drew Brees throwing another 6 touchdowns. The Eagles will have to face the Saints defense with either an injured McNabb or backup Kevin Kolb. Either way, neither team wants to fall behind in their division, even if it is early in the season.
