Hello, welcome to the latest meeting of the New Orleans Saints Optimists Club. Just to get started let’s review the Saints season up to this point, a season that sees us at 0-4 and OH SO ClOSE.
To begin with, the New Orleans Saints have almost won four games. Against the Redskins the Saints had a chance to put one in the win column but ended up on the down side of a 40-32 score. Now that’s a bad game. In Week 2, New Orleans was once again within striking distance but that damn defense fell apart again, and let the Panthers score 35 points. Kansas City was an overtime loss so the Saints actually played almost well enough to win. Those damn replacement refs. Against the Packers, New Orleans had themselves in position to win again but Hartley missed a field goal.Still, a last second loss against the Packers ain’t so bad.
Now comes the incredibly optimistic part. Is it really so incredible to think that New Orleans Saints could rattle off four straight and put themselves in position to be at.500 midway through the season. Let’s take a look. First up is San Diego this Sunday, a prime time game in the Superdome. Very winnable. After a bye week which we’ll use to get our act together puts us into Tampa Bay and the Buccaneers suck. Very winnable. The Saints follow that up with a trip to Denver and this one kinda worries me but then again I’m an optimist right. Anything can happen in an NFL game and I think the Saints win this one. By this time the Saints are rolling, the O-Line is looking unbeatable and keeping Brees clean and Spags defense is finally getting the hang of the scheme. We play the Atlanta Falcons at home and no matter how badly one team sucks in this game it’s always close. In the Superdome New Orleans has the edge. We’re 4-4 baby.
