I bought Texans vs Saints tickets in oder to get a feel for the development of the Saints on both sides of the ball. I’ll start with the offense. Coming into the season the Saints needed a rugged ground game to complement the passing attack. From what I saw in Reliant Stadium, they’ve found it. Mike Bell rushed 10 times for 100 yards, including a 46-yard score. Pierre Thomas ran 4 times for 20 yards. Good numbers and a solid performance on the ground. Drew Brees was 9 of 14 for 87 yards andd a TD. Surprisingly, Joey Harrington put on a strong performance moving the Saints down the field in a 2 minute drill. All this against a decent Texans defense.
On the other side of the ball the Saints defense had some good moments, creating turnovers at crucial times, and actually stopping a potent Texans offense more than once. While not overpowering, this new Saints defense has big potential. They could be the defense we’ve lacked for three seasons. A little more time to jell by the starters and we could be have a respectable overall team.
We’re going to need it. The Falcons and Panthers wer both playoff teams. The Eagles went to the NFC Championship. The Giants are expected to win the NFC East with a defensive squad that looks beastly. And the Dallas Cowboys are favorites to push for a playoff spot.A tough season calls for a tough defense and wins generated by both sides of the ball, and this is going to be one tough season.
